Environmental Empowerment Workshop: Connecting Palestinian Youth with Their Natural Heritage

Under the project “Empowering Women, Securing the Future: Sustainable Solutions for a Greener, More Equal, and Food-Secure World,” we did an environmental workshop at the Jerusalem School (American School) in Beit Jala, followed by an exciting initiative, was conducted for the tenth grader to deepen their connection with the natural heritage of Palestine.

During the session, students explored the incredible native flora of the West Bank and learned about the rich biodiversity of both flora and fauna found across the unique biogeographical zones of historic Palestine.

One of the highlights of the day was planting seeds of the beautiful Anemone coronaria, a flower cherished in Palestine for its symbolic colors that represent the Palestinian flag. By planting this iconic species, students contributed to preserving our natural heritage while fostering a sense of environmental responsibility.

This meaningful initiative was made possible with the generous support of Slovenian Aid- Slovenian Representative in Ramallah, whose contribution helped bring environmental awareness and hands-on learning to our Palestinian youth.

خلال الجلسة، استكشف الطلاب النباتات المحلية الرائعة في الضفة الغربية، وتعرفوا على التنوع البيولوجي الغني للنباتات والحيوانات الموجودة في المناطق الجغرافية الحيوية الفريدة لفلسطين التاريخية

وكان من أبرز فعاليات اليوم غرس بذور زهرة شقائق النعمان الجميلة، وهي زهرة عزيزة على قلوب الفلسطينيين لألوانها الرمزية التي ترمز إلى العلم الفلسطيني. بزراعة هذا النوع المميز، ساهم الطلاب في الحفاظ على تراثنا الطبيعي مع تعزيز الشعور بالمسؤولية البيئية

أُتيحت هذه المبادرة الهادفة بفضل الدعم السخي من منظمة المعونة السلوفينية – الممثل السلوفيني في رام الله، الذي ساهمت مساهمته في نشر الوعي البيئي والتعلم العملي بين شبابنا الفلسطينيين.
